ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Friday was the first day of Operation Spirit’s third annual garage sale fundraiser.
Operation spirit is a local organization that sends out care packages to our troops around the world. Operation Spirit Director, Melodie Pittman said shopping at the fundraiser is a win win because not only is there a lot of good stuff to buy, but you also are supporting a great cause. She said this is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and this will help them through the Fall, as well as Christmas time.
“Today, we are having a garage sale fundraiser. A lot of people have donated stuff. I do sell online, so some of the things is merchandise that didn’t sell online. We are doing our big Summer garage sale fundraiser so we will have money going into the fall to start with Christmas and our Christmas shipping,” said Pittman.
Pittman said sending packages to soldiers is important because they can have bad days. A simple gesture can go a long way in helping them emotionally.
“Sometimes you get to be the mom, or the sister, or the aunt, or just a friend that they need. We have far too many people that are committing suicide and so I hope on some soldiers worst day, my son has had a lot of those days when he was deployed, that they will come in and there will be a package from us and that it brings hope,” Pittman added.
If you missed the fundraiser today, it will continue Saturday at 3-2-9-0 Bowers Lane from 10:00 a.m till 2:00 p.m.
