ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s that time of year again to Stuff the Bus. The Eastside Community Ministry is looking for school supplies to help out local students.
The Stuff the Bus event is happening this Saturday, at the North Walmart from 10 till 2 PM. They are looking for all kinds of notebooks, glue sticks, paper, and other school supplies. Eastside Community Ministry Committee Member, Ellen Shaw said this is around the 20th year they’ve done this, and it is a great way to help the community out.
“Well, obviously it means a lot because it costs a lot of money to start back to school. The backpacks probably, to fill them is around $40 and that is a big expense for some families. It’s fun to watch the kids when we deliver them and they are in the car waiting for us to bring them out and they will say, what color do I have this year? or I can hardly wait to see mine. It is fun,” said Shaw.
Kappa Delta Gamma stuffs the bus with the materials that are donated. Shaw said she has been doing this for a long time now, and it is amazing to see how much it has grown since the beginning.
Shaw added, “When they first started, it was basically just for the neighborhood children here and I am not even sure they did 100. I started volunteering in 2006 and we were doing around 650 then and then we went up to 700 and then 900 and now we are doing a 1,000. We will take applications beginning next Monday through Thursday and we will fill all of the backpacks we get applications for.”
Shaw said the dates to apply for a backpack is July 15th through the 18th, and she wants to thank everyone in advance who helps them out.
