ZANESVILLE, Ohio – An annual event is helping kids lace up a new pair of shoes for the school year.
Eastside Community Ministry, WHIZ Media Group, and Wendy’s are teaming up for the 31st annual Lace Up For Kids campaign. Lace Up For Kids has helped provide more than 30,000 shoes to kids in pre-k through 12th grade over the years. Kids are able to pick out the shoes that interest them the most and are in their size, and wear them for the new school year.
“Who doesn’t like a new pair of shoes? And these children have to be prepared for gym class, and so the community sees the need and if you’ve experienced it, if you’ve volunteered for it then it just warms your heart and the whole experience is just amazing,” said Eastside Ministry Executive Director, Jamie Trout.
A contest was also held called “Just Donate” where eight local gyms competed to collect the most amount of shoes for Lace Up For Kids. The winner of the contest, Southtown Gym, collected 54 pairs of shoes. Wendy’s is also donating one dollar of every kid’s meal sold at their Zanesville location for the cause as well.
“This year we are doing a dollar off for every kids meal will be donated to the Lace Up For Kids so everybody please come in and buy your kids meals. And if you have shoes, they certainly can be dropped off at any of the participating Wendy’s in Zanesville, and we will make sure those get distributed to the proper place,” said Wendy’s District Manager, Amy Lavy.
Applications for the shoes will be accepted at Eastside Ministry on July 15th through 18th, July 22nd, and July 29th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
