Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton says the city jail was flooded Wednesday night after an inmate pulled off a fire suppression sprinkler head. It happened around 7:30 pm and water drained through the 3rd flood ceiling flooding the second floor. Tilton says a lot of damage was done included ruining 10 cameras, four telephones and other electronics. Tilton says Thursday they brought in crews to clean up the mess. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says two prisoners, who were wanted on county warrants, were transferred to his jail. The Mayor says some inmates who were due to released were let out of jail early. Tilton says the city called its insurance carrier to start the process to tabulate the damage. The inmate who caused the damage was one of the prisoners transferred to the county jail. Tilton says the dollar damage is expected to be “large”.
