ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Patriot Award is presented when a soldier nominates their employer for the support given during their service.

Major John Price is a Physician Assistant at Genesis Emergency and Trauma Services and is also a full-time member of the U.S. Military. Price said he nominated his boss, Dr. John Zimmerman because he supported him and his family through difficult times.

“He gave me a chance, so four or five years ago, I didn’t have any emergency medicine training but I had trauma training and family practice and Dr. Zimmerman took it upon himself to make sure that I was trained and gave me a chance for the position in the emergency room,” Price said.

He said Zimmerman truly deserves this award because as an employer there are benefits and challenges to having an employee in the military. These employees can have a diverse set of skills but it can also come with being absent for different spans of time.

Genesis FirstCare’s Medical Director Dr. Zimmerman said, “Receiving this Patriot Award is an incredible honor, it’s overwhelming and it’s very humbling. Everybody at Genesis, in my department, we’re a family and so being able to support a family member that you work with is the same as being able to support a family member that you’re born into.”
