ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Rotary is preparing to host their 2nd Annual Hunger 5K Run/Walk.
The event will take place on June 2nd starting at the Muskingum Recreation Center. Chairman of the Hunger 5K Everett Jackson said it is going to be a quick morning and it’s all for a great cause.
“The purpose of this event is to help children who do not have food on the weekends when there’s no school. What happens during the year, the school provides a hot lunch for them but if it comes to a holiday weekend then that Friday maybe or the Monday there’s no food and so Rotary has put this project together to provide food for the students on those weekends,” Jackson said.
Last year, they had 82 participants and through the event they raised $10,234. Everyone who runs or walks will receive a medal for participating in the Hunger 5K.
“There’s going to be a nice bunch of awards given out. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall and 1st place this year is a $50 gift certificate that’s been given by the mall for the first male and the first female that win and then for each age group, occur from zero up to 80, the 1st, 2nd 3rd place of each division will receive a $10 gift card,” Jackson said.
