ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Wednesday, March 20th is the first day of Spring and that means it’s time to start planning your garden.
Owner of Timber Run Gardens Steve Carter says there are a lot of things you can start to plant now and a lot of things you can’t plant yet. Carter said the weather is too cold for the more tender plants.
“Stuff like trees and shrubs and perennials, subperitoneal and things like that,” Carter said. “That can be planted out no problem if the weather’s permitting as far as wetness in the ground.”
Carter said they can help customers with different ideas and any plants that are already outside are safe to plant now. Dave Rau, Communications Manager for Columbia Gas, says as it warms up we all want to get outside and start working on projects but there are some steps to take first.
“If you are doing any digging please make sure you call 811 at least two business days in advance to keep yourself safe,” Rau said. “Utility lines could be just a few inches under the ground.”
Rau said even if you hire a contractor, make sure to have them call 811 before doing any digging. The process is free, easy and if you are interested in finding out about your property, you can contact Columbia Gas.
