MORGAN CO., Ohio–The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Monday that one lane of the bridge over the Muskingum River connecting Malta and McConnelsville will be closed beginning March 18 for bridge improvements.
Phase 1 of the bridge work was completed in December. As part of Phase 2, a new bridge parapet wall, or barrier along the side of the bridge, will be installed. It will have the same stone appearance and railing as the other side of the bridge.
Additionally, a pedestrian sidewalk with decorative steel railing and new lighting will be installed across the bridge. A concrete deck overlay is also planned as part of Phase 2.
Temporary traffic signals and a 12 foot width restriction will be in place on the bridge through June 1, 2019.
Work on the entire project, including the installation of roundabouts on either end of the bridge, is estimated to conclude on October 31, 2019.
