ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Valentine’s Day is still an enjoyable holiday for one Primrose Retirement Community couple.
Janet and Tony Maple have been married for 63 years. They spoke with us about their best memories of Valentine’s Day together. Janet Maple said the couple would typically go out to eat and enjoy each other’s company.
“We usually go out to supper and then maybe if there’s a good movie, go to a movie. Of course when our kids were younger we would celebrate with them, you know have a big Valentine’s party,” Janet said.
She also she liked to make Tony cakes and pies for the holiday, and Tony always bought her nice clothes. But the Maples believe Valentine’s Day is not about gifts, it’s about appreciating your loved ones.
“I think because God gives you each other you should respect that, and when there’s something to let them know you appreciate them, let them know, so Valentine’s Day is a good day,” Janet mentioned.
“I think we ought to celebrate Valentine’s Day 365 days a year,” Tony added.
For the Maples, the Valentine’s Day celebration is even more special because Tony’s birthday is the day after, and they will enjoy Tony’s birthday with their family.
