THORNVILLE, Ohio – First place in the league is on the line in this week’s Muskingum Valley League game of the week as John Glenn visits Sheridan.

John Glenn (13-3, 11-0) is the last team in the conference without a league loss. A win for them would keep keep them in sole possession of first place. The Generals (15-2, 11-1) are hoping for a win to vault them to a tie for the top spot.

Their first meeting this season came down to the wire. John Glenn jumped out to an early lead and at one point led by 17 in the first half. The Generals fought back to make a one possession game but John Glenn hung on for a 46-44 victory.

JG first year head coach TJ Mitchell reflecting on that first matchup.

“The first time we played them we benefited from playing them at home. We were able to get off to a good start and had them on their heels. As the game went on they made some runs and then we were on our heels. Overall I’d like to see us handle the pressure better this time,” said Mitchell.

It’ll be a matchup between the league’s best scoring defense and the league’s top scorer. The John Glenn ‘D’ gives us just 40 points per game. Sheridan has two players in the top-five in the league in scoring, led by Ethan Heller’s 21 points per game.

“The majority of the attention is on Heller. Every time he has the ball he has the ability to score. He makes his team mates better. We’ve got to make sure we don’t give up anything easy to him,” said Mitchell.
