ZANESVILLE, Ohio – In this week’s Muskingum Valley League game of the week the Tri-Valley Scotties head to southtown to take on Maysville.
The Scotties are looking to stay pace in the MVL. They’re third in the league standings with a 7-2 record in conference play. Todd Mclaughlin’s Dawgs are coming off a win over non-league rival Zanesville on Tuesday in which junior Keaton Williams poured in 23 points.
Coach Mclaughlin says it has been impressive to see Williams grow through out the year.
“Keaton is a blue-collar type of player. Every day he shows up and competes. He’s really improved throughout the course of the year. He’s been our leader all year. He shows that as long as you work hard good things can happen. Not only for him but for our team,” said Mclaughlin.
Maysville could use a win. They’ve lost five of their last six. A win last week over West Muskingum ended a five game losing streak. Due to winter weather and cancellations, they haven’t played in ten days.
The first time these two played it was the Scotties who got a 56-31 win in Dresden. Maysville didn’t help their case by turning the ball over 25 times.
They’re facing a defense that statistics wise is tops in the MVL. The Scotties only give up 45 points per game in league matchups.
“We just talked to our guys about being in attack mode all the time. Not backing down to Sheridan because they’re Sheridan. Or backing down to Tri-Valley because they’re Tri-Valley. At Tri-Valley about a month ago we were pretty young. Now we’ve got seven more games under our belt,” said Maysville head coach Dave Brown.
