Bringing home a hero

Local News

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – People lined the streets to welcome home a fallen hero.

Guernsey County native Sergeant Jorden Williams passed away on January 2 while stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Friday afternoon a procession of local law enforcement escorted Sergeant Williams from the John Glenn International Airport to Byesville where his funeral will be held early next week. Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Curtis Braniger said the escort was an opportunity for the community to grieve for Sergeant Williams.

“It’s just a small way that the community can also show their support for the family and to grieve as well,” said Lieutenant Braniger.

Lieutenant Braniger said Sergeant Williams was well known by the Sheriff’s office as his father is a Lieutenant with the department. He said he will always remember how willing Sergeant Williams was to help, and the way he could light up a room.

“His smile. I will always remember Jorden’s smile,” said Braniger. “I will always remember his willingness to help anybody. Jorden was the type of guy that could walk in and light up a room and I’ll always remember that about him.”

Services for Sergeant Jorden Williams will be held on Monday at 12 p.m. at Stop Nine Church of Christ in Byesville with visitation hours on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.
