ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Maysville and Philo are both hoping to ring in the new year with victories this week in the MVL game of the week.
The Panthers are hoping to avoid a slow start in 2019. They haven’t played a game in two weeks. They come into Friday’s matchup 3-6.
Second year head coach Dave Brown on what he’s seen from Philo.
“I told my coaches and players that they might be the best 2-5 team in the state. I think they are a very well coached team. And their point guard, Cody Butler, in my opinion is one of the better players in the league. They are a very good team. But I think we matchup well,” said Brown.
Philo has been in some incredibly close games. They lost to Sheridan, Morgan, and Cambridge by three or less points.
This will be their first game in 2019 and head coach Greg Haberfield said his team set some New Year’s resolutions.
“We talked about putting four quarters together. We’ve played some really good halves. But we need to be consistent as a team if we want to win some games,” said Haberfield.
Both times these two played last year the games came down to the wire. Philo won both matchups. The first one by three points and the rematch by two.
