New library building in Somerset

SOMERSET, Ohio – Somerset Elementary and Holy Trinity students lined the sidewalk of West Main Street this afternoon.

They formed a book brigade passing books from the old library all the way down the block to the building that will become the new library in just a few days. Director of the Perry County District Library Melissa Marolt said they did it to get the students involved with the new location.

“We just wanted to get the community as involved as possible and what better way to get the students involved than having them help move the library,” said Marolt.

Marolt said the new space will be larger and include new meeting rooms, allowing them to provide more programming and material.

“The most exciting part of it is just opening those doors and providing this service to the community in a new space,” said Marolt.

Marolt said the grand opening of the new library will be December 29th and that they will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
