CROOKSVILLE, Ohio – Someone will get their first conference win Friday in the Philo-Crooksville game.
The Electrics have started the season 0-3 but don’t let their record fool you. They lost their season opener by just three points. And they fell Tuesday to Morgan by just a point. The three teams they’ve played this year are a combined 12-0.
It’s a Philo team that won 15 games last year. They return two of their top players from last year in Trey Lutz and Cody Butler. Head coach Greg Haberfield is hoping they can build off their success from last year.
“We talked all summer about being a better team than what we had last year. We want our win total to be higher. We want to go deeper in the tournament as well. Everyone wants to be a good team but we want to be a great team,” said Haberfield.
Crooksville has had their share of off the court issues. They lost Caden Miller before the season started to a football injury. 6’5″ senior Eric Taylor also had surgery and they’re not sure when he’ll be able to return to the lineup.
The Ceramics won their season opener but have dropped their last two against Maysville and John Glenn.
With all the injuries head coach Travis German is calling on some of his less experienced players to step up.
“We don’t have a lot of bench right now. Right now I’m looking at maybe seven deep. The Sparks boy (sophomore Caden) has really come along and adapted to the varsity level. I’m expecting big things from him. Hunter Carr, I’m proud of the way he’s stepped up too,” said German.
Philo won both meetings last season.
