ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Stepping up from being the Assistant, say hello to the new Zanesville Fire Chief.
Jeff Bell was sworn into office today as the new Fire Chief. Bell has been with the city of Zanesville for over sixteen years. He has experience with the U.S. Marine Corps as Aircraft Firefighting Rescue where he says he had his calling to make this a career. Bell expressed how honored he was to become the Fire Chief.
“As far as being the new Chief,I’m honored. I’m humbled by it. A lot of these guys I’ve worked with, some of them my entire career. We’ve been together, and get to see new guys come in. I’m amazed at the things that they do every day to help people,” said Bell.
Bell said he is looking forward to passing on the values the Department holds to the new firefighters coming in.
“To make sure that they understand when you put that uniform on everything that entails, the trust of the public that they put into you when you say that ‘I’m a firefighter.’ You’re held in a certain regard, you’re held to a higher standard. And I want them to embrace that pride,” he added.
Bell had to go through a testing process to achieve his civil service position. He replaces Eric Waltemire who resigned as Chief in May.
