MVL radio game of the week: Tri-Valley vs. Sheridan

THORNVILLE, Ohio – Whenever Sheridan and Tri-Valley meet there’s a good chance that it will play a part in deciding the league title. And Friday’s matchup on the hardwood will be no different.

Sheridan comes into Friday’s game 2-0. However, both of their wins have been nail-biters. The Generals came from behind in double overtime to beat Liberty Union in their opener 75-70. They opened up league play with a four point win over Philo on Tuesday.

All-Ohio quarterback Ethan Heller transitioned nicely from the football field to the basketball court, scoring 25 points in both games.

“He still has a basketball in his hands during football season. People don’t know how hard he works but he puts a lot of time in. He works year round at his game. It’s not surprising to me that he’s got off to a good start,” said Sheridan head coach Doug Fisher.

The Scotties come into this matchup 1-1. They dropped their opener to DeSales but rebounded with a league win over West Muskingum on Tuesday.

It’s a Tri-Valley team that lost a lot of talent from last year’s co-MVL champion team. Among the key returners are senior Matt King and juniors Jack Lyall and Keaton Williams.

Despite the departures, the goals remain high for head coach Todd Mcloughlin.

“Every year our main goal is to win the league title. But this is young team we have this year and each and every game you’re looking for some improvement. One thing we’ve focused on all preseason is that we have to be able to control things that we can control, like effort, rebounding, and communication,” said Mcloughlin.

The Scotties and the Generals split their two regular season meetings last year.
