ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The ringing of bells can be heard in front of many Zanesville stores, usually accompanied by a familiar red kettle.
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is in full swing this holiday season and Envoy George Bates said it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year. He said all of the money raised goes back to helping the community.
“The kettles, that’s exactly what they do,” said Bates. “They help us to support the community. It’s mind blowing how much it costs just to help people.”
Bates said many people are familiar with the iconic red kettles and make a point to donate to them each year. He said without that community support the Salvation Army could not do what it does.
“We have a heart to help people, and we can’t do it without the support of the community and they’ve been awesome, they’ve always been awesome,” said Bates. “They just see that and they just want to give.”
The Salvation Army will have kettles in front of different stores throughout Zanesville until Christmas Eve for anyone looking to donate.
