ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Downtown Zanesville kicked off the holiday season.

Despite the cold weather, a large crowd of people gathered in front of the courthouse for the 25th Miracle on Main Street. Manager of the Zanesville Downtown Association Dana Matz said Miracle on Main Street is a tradition that continues to bring the community together.

“This brings the community together,” said Matz. “This is a tradition. This is the 25th year for this event here at the Muskingum County Courthouse. So this brings people together, people of all ages, kids of all ages if you will.”

During the course of the evening, people had the chance to walk around downtown for the Holiday Tour and take in the Festival of Trees. They also had the chance to hear performances from local groups including Zanesville High School’s “Blue Knights” and the Y-City Barbershoppers. Matz said as the holiday season kicks-off he wants to encourage people to buy locally this year.

“What we’re encouraging people this year, shop local first,” said Matz. “Be local, support the local businesses, they give back to our community. So be local, shop local.”

The evening wrapped up with the lighting of the Muskingum County Courthouse along with a visit from a very special man from the North Pole.
