ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Rain or shine one thing is always certain, this is a community that keeps on giving.
The Eastside Community Ministries hosted their Annual Thanksgiving Feast Giveaway on Monday, November 19th. Volunteers stood out in the rain and cold from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to hand out food to those in need.
Sally Goins, President of the Board of Eastside Community Ministries said, “One of the things we like about the way we do this is this is the food to prepare the dinner at home so that when folks are having Thanksgiving, it’s a family time for them in their house and they don’t have to go out. They can get together with loved ones and share a meal.”
She said rather than host a dinner they thought it would be special to provide the food to take home and have their own dinner with the family. The food was donated to Eastside Communities from multiple groups throughout the community.
Goins said, “Actually we have a ton of apples, we have a ton of white potatoes, we have about a half a ton of sweet potatoes, we have somewhere in the vicinity of 600 cans of corn and 600 cans of green beans and 150 turkeys.”
She said giving the food to those in need is giving volunteers a whole other meaning to Thanksgiving.
