“Familiar Comforts”

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A new art exhibit is opening in Zanesville.

Artist and Curator Jenn Cole is a ceramic artist who will be displaying her work at the PSZ Clay Center. Cole creates dinnerware and tea sets along with other everyday dish sets. Cole said her work is inspired by antique patterns and designs but is meant to be used every day.

“But I’m really interested in kind of bridging that gap,” said Cole. “And letting people kind of feel like they’re using something fancy and handmade, but not being afraid to actually use it.”

The exhibit is titled “Familiar Comforts” and Cole said the idea came from how some pieces might remind a person of their grandmother or a moment from their childhood. She said and that her work often has a nostalgic feel to it.

“I’m really also very interested in kind of the quiet comforts you feel when something seems familiar,” said Cole. “So using your favorite teacup in the morning or putting on your favorite sweater.”

The exhibit opens Saturday evening at 5 PM and Cole said she will be giving an artist talk and will be available to answer questions. For more information about Cole’s artwork, or to purchase pieces, you can visit her website.
