ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Lady Bishops fought hard all afternoon but their efforts weren’t enough as Maysville picked up the 66-50 win at Rogge Gymnasium on Saturday.
It looked like it might be a long afternoon for Rosecrans when the Lady Panthers jumped out to an early 9-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. But the Lady Bishops used an 11-5 run to close out the quarter and pull within 14-11 after the first eight minutes. Carly Roberts kept the Lady Bishops in it with six first-quarter points.
Maysville created some separation in the second quarter though as Bailee Smith and Macie Jarrett began to find their rhythm. Smith scored 8 of her 14 points in the second quarter, while Jarrett scored 10 of her 14 in the second frame as well. The Lady Panthers, with the help of a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded, took a 38-28 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Bishops came out strong in the second half, turning up the defense and holding Maysville to just 11 second-quarter points as they cut the lead to nine heading in the fourth quarter. However Alexis Samson scored 7 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to help Maysville pull away for the 16-point victory.
Jensen Israel lead all scorers on the afternoon with 16 for Maysville, while Kailey Zemba lead the Lady Bishops with 14. Tessa Littick joined Zemba and Roberts, who finished with 13, in double-figures by chipping in 11 points for Rosecrans.
The Lady Panthers are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to the Power Plant to take on Philo, before wrapping up their season next Saturday afternoon when they host Tri-Valley; with possible MVL title implications on the line.
The Rosecrans girls play their next game on Tuesday night when they head to Lancaster to take on Fairfield Christian. They wrap up their regular season a week from Saturday as well when they host Berne Union at Rogge Gym.
