ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office will hold an evidence auction and is inviting the public to attend.
The auction will be held Saturday, September 9th at the Evidence Building on Newark Road beside the Animal Shelter. The auction starts at 10 am and everything from vehicles to electronics to tools and even kids toys can be found.
“Every so often I would say probably once a year we collect evidence from cases and then we get a disposition of where those things can be disposed of. So our evidence, clerical people comprise a list. Go through all the stuff that’s supposed to be destroyed or we can sell and that is what this sell is for.” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz
Lutz explained the majority of the seized items originate from search warrants and drug cases.
“A lot of this stuff is seized material. It could be junk and stuff that has been in vehicles that we have seized and taken possession of and so it’s just random, at one time it’s probably been evidence and then because the case has been disposed of and the appeal processes are done now we have possession of it.”
Lutz said the auction helps the Sheriff’s Office get rid of seized property and raise funds for the furtherance of justice in Muskingum County.
