SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s time to create memories through a community day filled weekend.
The Newton Township Community Days are Friday September 22, 2017 through September 24, 2017. Community Days President Dora Maxwell said they’ll have bouncy houses, various vendors, a parade, and even a melon derby.
“Somebody in the community asked us to start Community Days back up again for memories for the kids,” Maxwell said. “I have four children myself, so I’m passionate about it. I want to make good memories for the kids. This is the first time we’ve had it in six years and we’re opening it back up like we did before. Starting at 9:00 A.M. on Friday morning September 22, 2017.”
Vendors are still needed for the Newton Township Community Days weekend to reserve a spot call Don Yarger, (740) 819-5540.
Newton Township Fire Department is hosting their annual chicken barbecue on Sunday September 24, 2017 as part of the Community Days weekend. Fire Chief Allen Deaver said they’ll have a half chicken meal, antique car show, and now a duck race.
“We start serving at 11:00 A.M. and we’ll serve until we’re out,” Deaver said. “We have 1,000 chickens this year. The Chicken barbecue money goes to support the fire fighters, helps buy uniforms things like that. The niceties that we don’t take out of the budget.”
The fire fighters will start cooking at 3:00 in the morning and won’t stop until the one thousand chickens are fully cooked. Each chicken meal will have half a chicken, roll, french fries, and coleslaw for eight dollars.
