ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Morgan County received a gift today from Doctor Robert Richmond.
A statue of General Daniel Morgan was unveiled outside the Kate Love Simpson Library this afternoon. Richmond had the statue made as a gift for Morgan County in honor of the Revolutionary War General whom Morgan County is named after. Morgan played a part in winning independence from England through the Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina.
The statue was created by artist David Griesmyer; it is a life-sized rendering made out of stainless steel, without casting molds. General Morgan’s wife, Abigail, accompanies Morgan in the statue as well, as she was credited with teaching him how to read and write.
The statue can be viewed outside the library which is located at 358 E. Main St. in McConnelsville.
