Perry County Taking Part in START Program

Local News Stories

Perry, Fairfield and Athens counties are among fourteen Ohio counties targeted for a new $3.6m program launched by Ohio’s Attorney General.

Mike DeWine announced the START program Wednesday.

START stands for sobriety, treatment and reducing trauma. It’s an intervention program that will provide specialized victim services, such as intensive trauma counseling to children who’ve suffered victimization due to parental drug use.

The program will provide drug treatment for parents of children referred to the program.

The Public Children Services Association of Ohio said one of every two children placed into foster care in 2015 were there because of abuse and neglect associated with their parents’ drug use.
