Operation Christmas Child

Local News Stories

Area churches are thinking of impoverished children this holiday season.

Today was the  drop off day for the Operation Christmas Child project. Network Coordinator, Chad Lawson said today all the area relay centers bring their boxes to Rolling Plains United Methodist Church for them to be shipped oversees.

“It’s a wonderful project you know we’re not only giving gifts, but we’re spreading God’s love and we’re teaching all these kids who Jesus is and that Jesus loves them,” said Lawson. “Sometimes this is the only gift that those kids get and it just brings a tremendous amount of joy.”

Lawson said Rolling Plains United Methodist Church has been doing this project for years and next year they hope to get more boxes.

“We have close to 800 for this church alone and with all the churches combined we’ll be well over 10,000 by the end of the day loaded on trailers ready to go,”said Lawson. “We hope to get a couple more relay centers throughout the the area and we’d like to see well over 12 thousand boxes come out of the area that would be awesome.”

The boxes are shipped with hygiene supplies, religious booklets, and toys. Lawson said this shows the children that someone loves them and is looking out for them.
