New Concord Pool Goes to the Dogs

Local News Stories

NEW CONCORD – Before the New Concord Area Pool was drained for the fall it was turned over to the dogs for an afternoon.

For 8 years the last weekend in August has been given over to the K-9s. Dogs of all breeds and sizes were allowed to cool off in the village’s pool. Judy Beetem is the program director for New Concord Arts and Recreation District and said she looks forward to the weekend all year.

“This is the most fun day of the year. The pool is closed to people now because school is back in session. So we spend the last couple of days with the dogs. Then we clean everything out and get it ready for next year,” said Beetem.

A $5 donation from each owner is used towards the ‘Save the Pool Campaign.’ Beetem said they are trying to raise $150,000 to renovate the 55-year-old pool.

“There are a lot of repairs that need to be done just to maintain it. We are trying to get a liner and spruce up the concession stand and things,” said Beetem. “The doggies will always be welcome here.”

If you missed Saturday’s “Dog Days Event,” then you can hit up the pool Sunday. It will re open from noon till 12 p.m. for the dogs.
