ZANESVILLE, Ohio– It’s curtain call for the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band summer concert series.
The memorial concert band concluded their summer concert series with a guest composer and conductor Lisa Galvin. Assistant Director Janine Schmelzer Bock said Galvin is the first woman the concert band has ever had come and conduct their Ohio composer’s concert.
“It’s really an honor to be invited to come and showcase music that I’ve written and composed,” Galvin said. “And be able to conduct it with such a fine ensemble, the zanesville memorial [concert] band is a terrific gem in this community. It’s a real privilege to be here.”
The band played three songs composed by Galvin. Bock shared her thoughts on the season the memorial band had.
“It’s just been such a great summer,” Bock said. “And I’m just a little bit sad to see it end. But all of the plans that we went into the summer hoping for the best have really come through. And so with the season like this we know that we can do another one and there’s nowhere to go but up.”
The Zaneville Memorial Concert Band ended its summer concert series playing to a packed house at Secrest Auditorium.
