The Falls Township Fire Department held its biggest fundraiser of the year.
The department and volunteers prepared and sold nearly 2,000 meals. Falls Township Fire Chief Brady Johnson said they lit the pit at 3:30 this morning and grilled 1,750 chickens.
“We like to give back to the community too. We have a lot of volunteers here that have volunteered their time. The people that support us, both as tax payers or just come to get their chicken dinner we see the same people every year,” said Chief Brady.
Fire Chief Johnson said this tradition started over five decades ago.
“Many things in the fire service is based on tradition and know differently with this BBQ. In 1964 my grandfather is one of the ones that collected money at the door. To me it’s important, I’m third generation, my kids are here today running around helping out. It may not be a whole lot but they are throwing trash away and cleaning up,” said Chief Brady.
All proceeds from the event will go towards purchasing new dive team equipment.
