ZPD Investigates Monday Shooting

Local News

The Zanesville Police Department is investigating a shooting at 524 Ball Street.

The shooting took place around 2:30 Sunday morning. Zanesville Police Chief Kenneth Miller said 28-year-old William Hampton sustained a single gun shot wound to his ankle and foot area. Police received reports from people in the area at the time of the shooting.

"There were people in the neighborhood that gave us a little bit of information on a possible vehicle and also confirmed what we did learn from the victim that [the shooter] was a black male wearing black clothes," Chief Miller said.

Chief Miller was only able to say that the suspect is a black male that was wearing a black shirt and a ski mask at the time of the shooting. During the altercation a pitbull was shot and killed.

Chief Miller added that the victim was not cooperative at the scene. Police are looking into the possibility of drugs being involved.

"There is a possibility of drugs involved, but we don’t really have a whole lot to go on yet with that, but we think that’s part of the issue," Chief Miller said.

Police detectives are investigating the shooting further. We will have more information as it becomes available to us.
