Local News

A 265 thousand dollar "Strong Families, Safe Communities" Grant has been awarded from the State of Ohio to Muskingum, Guernsey, Coshocton and Perry Counties.

The Ohio Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services along with the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities announced the grant this afternoon at the John McIntire Library. Dan Carpenetti, from Tompkins Treatment Inc. described what the grant money would be used for across the four counties.

"The Strong Communities Grant is allowing us to train not only our staff but also staff from the DODD and help us work collaboratively with them in order to provide services to consumers who are needing the services of both agencies."

Carpenetti also explained that while a portion of the money will be used for training employees in the I-FAST System, the rest of the grant money will be divvied up among the counties based on client need. The grant is part of a two year, $5 million state wide initiative. Last year’s projects had great success and Tracy Plouck, director of OhioMHAS, hopes that this years rounds of grants are equally successful.

"This is really an opportunity to demonstrate local partnerships, many of which are in place now and really build with a little bit more resources on some challenges that some folks are trying to manage within the community."
