Gregory, Lady Muskies Take Eastern District Crown

 Haley Gregory and the John Glenn girls dominated at the DII Eastern District Championships, winning the top spot with a grand total of 146.50 points–more than double the totals of second-place finishers Morgan and Martins Ferry.

Gregory finished second in the 100 meter dash (12.35) behind Whitney Martin of Indian Creek (12.38). The super senior, who was slightly hampered by a foot injury, bounced back with wins in the 100 (15.17) and 300 hurdles (46.84). Freshman Brooke Fatheree earned the Muskies 10 points with a first-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.00. Rheanna Wilson continued John Glenn’s dominance with a nine-second margin of victory in the 1600 meter run. The Lady Muskies (4:14.37) also edged out Philo (4:14.48) in the 4X400.

 Morgan turned in a solid effort on the girls’ side. Junior Cheyenne Hanson (12:28.39) dominated in the 3200 meter run. The Lady Raiders also took home gold in the 4X800 meter relay (10:11.00) and the high jump, thanks to senior Baylee Garrett (5-01.00). 

The Cambridge boys finished safely in third with 96.50 points behind St. Clairsville (128) and Martins Ferry (98).

Errik Snell was victorious for the ‘Cats in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.63. Snell picked up right where he left off in the 300 meter hurdles (40.62), edging out Jack Fitch of Martins Ferry (40.65). Snell led Cambridge to victory in the 4X100 (43.43) alongside seniors Eric Fox, Ivan Gadson and Ayden Howell. Fox then added the pole vault gold medal to his trophy case with a final jump of 15-09.00.

The DII, Region 7 finals will begin next Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Muskingum University.
