Muskingum County residents met at the Duncan Falls Philo Library to learn more about the 24- inch Blue Grass Pipeline making its way through the state.
Attorneys Michael Braunstein and Bill Goldman talked to property owners about the importance of understanding the contracts that land agents will eventually ask them to sign. The duo have worked on hundreds of cases involving the Sunoco pipeline where property owners were almost persuaded into signing their rights away. Braustein says there are some major red flags owners should be aware of.
"One of the main things is that this easement provides that there could be more than one pipeline, so a pipeline could be built today, in a year or two another pipeline could be built in the same easement without any further compensation and the same thing in a couple years hence, " said Braunstein.
Others issues include access to property, property value and land productivity. Once the lawyers gave their presentation the public voiced their concerns.
" There are many reasons why people are hesitant to hire an attorney, but the fact is they are being confronted by a situation where they need an attorney and so they have to try to find someone who they can respect and trust, and who will look out for their interest," said Braunstein,
