Red Cross Set for Deployment

Local News

The death toll mounts as Hurricane Sandy hits the Bahamas, Caribbean and Jamaica.

The storm has knocked out power, flooded roads and downed trees. It’s also put the Red Cross on alert.

The organization has opened shelters in the wake of the hurricane. It’s also affecting our local Red Cross, who’s on stand-by for deployment.

Executive Director Marlene Henderson said that the Red Cross has placed all of the emergency response vehicles on stand-by so they can be deployed immediately if needed.

Locally, the Red Cross said they have put volunteers on standby along with shelters in case we suffer any power outages or damage from the hurricane’s remnants.
