A Trip to the “Souper Bowl”

Local News

While professional football teams are still months away from the Super Bowl, area churches are preparing for one in a couple of weeks.

The 15th annual "Souper Bowl" benefit luncheon will be held on October 21st at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors.

Christ’s Table Executive Director Keely Warden said the event has a large turnout every year from the Sunday church crowd.

"Everybody comes out for the Souper Bowl," said Warden.  "They know they’re doing a good thing for a good cause. People just come out and have fellowship and talk with each other. It’s just a great day when everybody can come together for a great cause."

The meal consists of ham & bean, chili, potato or vegetable soup as well as hot dogs, sloppy joes and cookies.

Warden said the annual benefit has raised and distributed over $133,000 to area organizations.

"Our goal is to serve 1,000 bowls of soup, so we would like to see 1,000 people out there that day," added Warden. "Just come out and have a good time."

This year’s proceeds will benefit Eastside Community Ministry, the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christ’s Community as well as Christ’s Table.
