Zanesville Fire Dept. Gets New Ladder Truck

Local News

The Zanesville Fire Department received a new piece of equipment this week…

A brand new 105-foot ladder truck rolled into town on Monday evening, from Pierce Manufacturing out of Wisconsin. The new truck will replace the 1987 ladder truck the department has been using.

"We’re glad to have a new truck. The other one was starting to show some age, there was getting to be some maintenance issues with it so… This takes care of that. It’ll… Should be good for another 25 years and we won’t have to worry about it for a while," said Fire Chief Craig Stemm.

ZFD paid for the truck with a grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in January. Chief Stemm said the truck should be in use by early June.

"Right now, we’ve got a factory representative in for the next three days, from Pierce Manufacturing itself, going over the ladder truck itself. Then we have three more days of pump training and operations."

The new truck is already facing heat before fighting its first fire. Rob Guentter of RFG Associates prepared the federal grant application after signing a contract with former mayor Butch Zwelling. Zwelling never asked city council’s formal approval and council declined a moral claim made by Guentter to get paid his 75,000 dollar commission.
