The search for an escaped nursing home psych patient from Heath is over. Police Chief Tony Shepherd saysThursday night officers received a call of a possible prowler in the area of 152 Irvingwick Drive. Heath police officers found the patient – 53-year-old John Stroud – and placed him under arrest without incident. Stroud was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital as a precaution due to his extended exposure to the elements. Chief Shepherd says Stroud escaped early Thursday morning from his secure room at the Heath Nursing and Convalescent Home on South 30th Street. He is facing attempted murder charges after a standoff with authorities in Portsmouth in January of 2011. Chief Shepherd was openly unhappy that a nursing home was housing a patient such as Stroud and is working to make sure that does not happen again.
