Fathers Gain Encouragement

A State of Ohio executive expresses the need for fathers in the lives of their children.

The Executive Director of the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood spoke to a group of fathers and children at Zane Grey Elementary during a pro-dad’s breakfast sponsored by Forever Dads before touring other programs the group offers, like the Come Unity Market.

"It’s innovative. It encourages responsible fatherhood. They go and reconcile father’s back to their children when appropriate in jails, in prison and work release programs and bring them here to have some sort of job training," said Ohio Commission of Fatherhood Tracy Robinson.

Robinson said involvement by fathers leads to a decrease in teenage pregnancy, less drug abuse and an increase in graduation rates.

"Dad doesn’t have to be a tutor," said Robinson. "Dad just has to be involved and communicate to the child that their academic success is important to him."

The Ohio Commission of Fatherhood funds fatherhood programs, train professional on how to engage fathers and make policy recommendations to legislature and state agencies.
