After winning against John Bates, Muskingum County swears in their new County Commissioner, James Porter.
Porter spent the past 18 years as a Perry Township Trustee. Now as county commissioner, he knows he has big issues that he must face in the future, some of those issues concerning creating jobs and consolidation.
"The budgets and you are going to hear a lot of consolidation. The one thing I am looking into right now is combining the sewer and water department billing. I think we can save some money there," said Porter.
Porter says he is looking forward to the future and wishes John Bates all the best.
"I am so excited. I can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to working with Brian and Jerry and I hope we can make some positive things happen for Muskingum County as a team," said Porter.
Porter will begin his time in office starting in January.
