The fate of the Zanesville Postal Service Processing and distribution facility is up in the air again. The U.S Postal Service plans to conduct a new study at the Zanesville facility for possible consolidation of some operations into Columbus. Last year there were multiple public meetings in Zanesville to talk about the chance the local operation would be merged into Columbus, but it did not happen. Postal Service spokesman Victor Dubina says the organization faces one of the most difficult challenges in its history. The current economic downturn and continued internet use has led to a drastic decline in mail volume with the loss of 26-billion pieces in 2009. Dubina says soon more public hearings will be held so the community can ask questions about the possible changes. In April of 2009 the Postal Service held similar public meetings in Zanesville to talk about consolidation and in August of 2009 it was announced that it would not happen locally.
