Cystic Fibrosis Walk

Local News

It was a beautiful day for a walk around the park. More than 200 people gathered at Zane Landing Park in support of a very special cause. A walk was held to help raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, a disease with no cure, and no government funding. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation exists to provide money to help find a cure.

Special Events Director for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Ohio Chapter, Erin Hays says, "The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is funded solely on our fundraising events and things like that throughout the year so people bringing in donations to walks like this are what’s driving all the research, all the new treatments."

Some walk in support of a friend, family member, or acquaintance with the disease, while others just want to help.

Five-year volunteer, Chad Hawley says, "This is very important. My sister was born in 1989 with Cystic Fibrosis and at that time the average life of a person with Cystic Fibrosis was only 16 years old. That’s why these kinds of events are so important."

This years’ walk was the biggest in Zanesville walk history.
