Avid Golfer Flock to Golf-A-Rama

Local News

There may be snow on the ground, but avid golfers are already thinking ahead to spring when they can hit the links.

Today, the 20th annual Golf-A-Rama at the Knights of Columbus Hall packed in hundreds to meet with vendors and raise money for youth golf. The Golf-A-Rama is sponsored by the Zanesville District Golf Association. Last year’s Golf-A-Rama raised around $2,000.

"We run a two day golf tournament for the juniors and that is what all this goes to support, they get hats, stuff like that as a little token, but it puts them on the golf course," says John Cooper, chairman of the Golf-A-Rama.

The money also helps sponsor scholarships for three student golfers. Wade Davis is a Sophomore at Tri-Valley and one of the youth golfers. He says he has been playing since he was six years old and plans on pursuing a golf scholarship for college.

"You can get involved with it as long as you have a passion and it doesn’t matter if you are good or not, as long as you want to play you can get into it," says Davis.

Cooper says it is good for kids to get involved in golf because it is something they can do their whole lives and a great way to spend time with family members.
