Police arrested one person in connection with the rash of arsons in Newark.
Shane Cartmill of the State Fire Marshall’s office said he could not go into detail about the suspect, but he did say the individual arrested could be responsible for multiple fires. At this time charges are pending. According to Cartmill, evidence and tips led to the arrest Tuesday evening.
Cartmill said authorities are still searching for more suspects. In the past three weeks, 10 fires in Newark have been ruled arson, including two on Tuesday. If you have any information on the arsons, contact the State Fire Marshal’s at 800-589-2728. The Blue Ribbon Arson Committee is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identity of the person or persons responsible.
