Getting Ready for Interviews

More than 75 laid-off workers were treated to a day of pampering today to help them prepare to head back to work.

The Muskingum County Opportunity Center teamed up with Mid-East Career and Technology Center cosmetology students to provide those out-of-work with a free makeover .

"They get their choice. They’re all getting hair done we hope and they get a choice whether they want a manicure and make-up, so they’re kind of getting from the neck-up a real good deal and the manicure too," says Justy Cordray, coordinator Y-City Style Network.

After the makeovers the Opportunity Center hosts a "Night with Hiring Professionals" downtown, giving the dislocated workers a chance to network with human resources representatives from area companies.

"They are really the people that do the hiring locally. Now that doesn’t necessarily at their locations, but they certainly are aware of what it takes to get a job, what the customer has to know and how they present themselves and what to ask and what not to ask and how to really make an effective resume," she says.

At the "Night with Hiring Professionals" participants go through four seminars that cover interviewing, applications, resumes, and a panel discussion where they can ask H-R professionals questions about the hiring process.
