Travel Labor Day Weekend Fairly Safe

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says it had more than 600 contacts with drivers this holiday weekend.

Post Commander, Lieutenant Chad Neal, says most of those contacts dealt with speed, but overall, he says it was a fairly safe Labor Day weekend.

“Not only was there no fatalities reported in this post area, but also in the district. There were no fatalities reported in this southeast part of the state, ” says Neal.

He says there were 17 accidents that the Zanesville Post responded to, and six of those were injury accidents.

The Zanesville Post also had 83 seat belt citations.

“The volunteer use has definitely increased. However, that has been a major problem that we have identified, especially in Coshocton County where at least over 86% of our fatalities has been from drivers who fail to wear their safety belts, ” says Neal.

When it came to drinking and driving, Neal says the Zanesville Post only served six OVI’s.
