While the Zanesville Police Department is concerned over two of its members after Sunday’s shooting, it welcomes another, as Pete German was sworn in this afternoon.
German started training yesterday, a day after Patrolman Mike Schiele was shot. He says the incident won’t change his mind about becoming an officer.
“It is part of the territory. You got to take the good with the bad, and I just hope that Officer Schiele and his family are doing o-k, and Bosco gets well, ” says German.
German says he wanted to become a cop because he looks up to his grandfather, who served as a Licking County Sheriff’s Deputy for years.
“I hope I can bring good qualities to the city of Zanesville, ” says German.
The Zanesville Police Department will be at full staff next week, when another individual is swore in.
ZPD Chief Eric Lambes says the hiring process is long and extensive, and he says the department tries to maintain full staff if it’s possible.
