The family of Emma Bennett has spent the last three years knowing she’ll have to undergo open heart surgery.
This brave little girl suffers from a hole in her heart three quarters of an inch large. At first Emma’s parents hoped doctors could use a less invasive procedure of a catheter to correct the problem, but that won’t be possible.
“It’s been really scary,” said Emma’s Mother Brandi Bennett. “We also prayed that it would be the catheter where they would go up through her leg, close it that way.”
Emma will undergo surgery this fall to repair her heart. It’s something that maker her mother nervous.
“Her surgery is scheduled for October 26th,” said Bennett. “It’s like we don’t want that day to come. It’s going to be better for her.”
The Rockies Express Pipeliners donated $15,000 towards Emma’s surgery and Saturday at West Muskingum Boosters Hall friends and family held a yard sale, Chinese auction and food sale to raise money.
“They give all the time,” explained Family Friend Meranda Bell. “Every time there is a benefit, every time there is a school activity. They always give their time and money. They are always donating to their community and now it’s time that we give back.”
Bennett added, “It’s just amazing. Every time somebody donates something, any little thing like food or money. It’s just been really awesome.”
Another benefit will take place at the Maple Avenue Pizza Hut on August 17 from 5pm to 8pm.
