A local woman turned to the community for help today.
After Karla Metcalf was diagnosed with uterine cancer, her daughter quickly organized a yard sale at Immanuel United Church of Christ to help pay for living and medical expenses. Karla will undergo surgery the 26th, surrounded by family and friends, Karla says she is ready to begin treatment.
“Keep the prayers coming and I am ready to get going because you can’t start healing til you get started. Whatever comes, I am still the same person I was before I had cancer, it is what it is,” says Karla.
Donations came in from throughout the community and have far exceeded expectations. Metcalf’s family says it is her loving heart that makes her so special.
“She just cares about everybody, she would never turn anybody away, she just she is amazing, wonderful,” says Karla’s daughter, Julie Metcalf.
A sentiment echoed by many at the fundraiser today. The event included a raffle, yard sale, silent auction and bake sale.
