Survivor-Blue Rock Style

It’s been going on for more than 30 years, but the Mark Twain Family Fun Day at Blue Rock State Park has something new for families to experience.

Ohio State Parks Regional Naturalist Andrew Tippel says it’s survivor, Blue Rock style.

“That basically focused on four elements in a wilderness survival setting, which is food, water, shelter, and fire. It was like the TV show-although we don’t vote anyone off the park-we try to entice people into the park, ” says Tippel.

Tippel says it went really well for the first time.

He says everyone seemed to enjoy the family-style events that went on all day, such as the frog jump, sack races, obstacle course, and the late-night movie.

“We’ve had comments from the adults, ‘I remember coming here with my parents’ and ‘You guys had the grease pole.’ They’re seeing some changes down the line cause we drop some things and then we add other things to replace it, ” says Tippel.

To tie in Mark Twain, Tippel says families went on a scavenger hunt. He says words from a Mark Twain sentence were hidden throughout the park.

About 250 families took part in the Mark Twain Family Fun Day.
